[GRASSLIST:1297] compiling 5.1 under cygwin

I beleive I am getting closer to compiling 5.1 under cygwin, but my 
newest problem comes in the form of a series of errors when running make 
  which look generally as follows:

    character <a> (n=97) not defined in font <gothgbt>
    character <b> (n=98) not defined in font <gothgbt>
    character <c> (n=99) not defined in font <gothgbt>
    character <d> (n=100) not defined in font <gothgbt>
    character <e> (n=101) not defined in font <gothgbt>
       .
       .
       .
    make[3]: *** 
[/home/Rich/grass51_exp_2003_09_06/dist.i686-pc-cygwin/fonts/cyrilc]
    Error 139
    make[3]: Leaving directory

I do not have any idea where to begin looking to address this problem. 
Can anyone offer a suggestion?
