I double checked my installation of WinGrass 5.7 this morning - everything
is functioning fine on my machine.
I'm not sure what is causing your problems. If I'm not mistaken, you can
only have one installation of Cygwin on your PC, as Cygwin will complain if
it finds multiple copies of cyggdal1.dll on your drive.
Is this a shared computer? Perhaps some of your files have been altered or
moved by other users. I'm grasping at straws, but it sounds like maybe
Cygwin is having trouble finding some of your x11R6 libraries. Try running
setup.exe again, and make sure that all of the required packages are there.
What Grass5.7 binary release are you using? Huidae Cho has released and
updated 5.7 binary at http://geni.ath.cx/grass.html. See the section on
troubleshooting....he has created a shell script to fix some problems that
were occurring with missing library error messages. Try installing his
latest binary, run this script, and see how is goes.

Subject: wingrass5.7.0 - not working
i had successfully installed Wingrass 5.7.0 and cygwin, Cygwin/x.
all the folders and files related to both grass and cygwin were in the
folder c:/cygwin. i could start cygwin and run grass using startx and
grass57 commands. i could access and work with spearfish 57 dataset.this
was about a week ago.
i returned to work on grass but now it does'nt work. i get the message
after the startx command:
> make sure that /usr/x11R6/bin is in your path and the X is a program or a
> link to the right type of server.
after some time it opens the xserver screen, but keying in the grass57
returns a command not found. the same happens even when i link to the path
of grass57.
i next tried repeating the whole process from start - installation onwards.
i tried to rename the existing cygwin folder (so that i reinsatll all
components to a new cygwin folder)- i could not - permission was denied
stating that some other user is using it. (i am on a PC with windowsxp)
i created a new folder in root c:/cygwinnew and reinstalled all components
- cygwin, cygwin-x, xtcltk, cyggdal-1.dll and grass5.7.0. but the grass
executable folder/file would be created only in c:/cygwin and not in
c:/cygwinnew in which i had all the files
the outcome was the same as earlier - after the above error message and a
long pause, the X/screen would open but grass57 command is not accepted.
it looks to me like a problem of access and has to do more with unix. i
dont know unix.
how was evrything in grass smoothly done a week ago and nothing works
now. can anyone help
nhrao
thanks
