[GRASSLIST:3919] worldwide SRTM data now available

The Africa, Australia, and Islandia SRTM datasets have just
been released:

  ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/


This is yet-uncleaned 3arcsec (90m-sq horizontal resolution) topographic
data from the Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission of Feb. 2000. 
It covers the planet from 60N to 60S. In addition, the USA is available
at 1arcsec (30m-sq) resolution. for more info see:

Also: ETOPO 2' (3.7km-sq) worldwide bathymetric data is available here:

Bonus:  Digital Chart of the World vector data (VMAP0 and VMAP1):

VMAP0 is ar 1:1,000,000 map scale
VMAP1 is at 1:250,000 map scale
Import with v.in.ogr in GRASS 5.7.
  - OGR needs to be compiled with OGDI support to read VMAP0
  - Is VMAP1 supported by OGR?
