[GRASSLIST:2808] pipes between programs

Hi, I wonder if the following is possible:

Talk to GRASS from PHP... in other words use PostgreSQL with phpPgAdmin to 
query and use a postgres database, and then send the query results as a 
string to identify vectors in GRASS using for example v.extract.  I wonder 
if anyone is familiar with the PHP system(), popen(), backtick operator....
