Which operating system are you using? Under Linux you just install both
version and start GRASS 5.0.x with the command "grass5" and the 5.7.0 version
with "grass57" in the shell. Not later "refinement" of the structure is
necessary.
I am not aware that two different GRASS version get confused with each other -
perhaps somebody else can tell you that they definitely can access the same
database (not at the same time) without producing errors.
I am running 5.0.3 and 5.7.0 and both are accessing the same db - so far
without errors.

sorry, not experiences with server based GRASS functionalities.

well, I doubt that there will be some kinds of "upgrade" functions available -
you have to go through the whole installation process again.
But that is not a big deal if you are using the binaries for Linux, just do
"sh name_of_shell_script.sh name_of_GRASS_tar.gz" -- done.

If you are not in a hurry, wait a couple of .... days? or weeks ... and 5.4.0
will be released, than you don't have to worry about a second installation
until the 5.7.0 branch releases a stable version ;-)
