Hi all,

I'm a complete GRASS newbie with one on-line tutorial under
my belt and I'm looking for some help with a stereographic
projection.

I have a grib dataset projected this way:

polar stereo: Lat1 32.725000 Long1 -134.532000 Orient 249.000000
              north pole (313 x 249) Dx 24000 Dy 24000 scan 64

As far as I can make out, in order to get this data into
a latlon projection, I have to create both a stereographic
projection and a latlon, use v.in.ascii to load some data
into the ps, and then use v.proj to copy the data from the
ps to ll. Is that right?

I had a go at creating a stereographic projection but
I don't understand some of the params. Here's my resulting
PROJ_INFO:

name: Stereographic
datum: nad27
nadgrids: ntv1_can.dat
proj: stere
ellps: clark66
a: 6378206.4000000004
es: 0.0067686580
f: 294.9786982000
lat_0: 0.0000000000
lat_ts: 32.7250000000
lon_0: -111.0000000000
k_0: 1.0000000000

 And this is the WIND:

proj: 99
zone: 0
north: 51
south: 41
east: 301
west: 286
cols: 1800
rows: 1200
e-w resol: 0.00833333
n-s resol: 0.00833333
top: 1
bottom: 0
cols3: 1
rows3: 1
depths: 1
e-w resol3: 1
n-s resol3: 1
t-b resol: 1

Note that I created the projection with a 30 second grid,
'cause g.setproj didn't want to accept 24km.

Am I on the right track?

 Thanks for reading,
 - Paul
