As far as I can remember (I didn't set this up), the version that you can 
list in the GUI startup comes from PROJ, but the version that is actually 
used comes from GDAL and is in one of the .csv files in lib/proj (copied 
to $GISBASE/etc/ogr_csv on install)---pcs.csv I think. So that would be 
the best place to search.
