  Answering Otto an Michelle,

I didn't force any of the package installation with the -f switch, actually
there were only two fixes. The dependencies that had to be resolved are

gdal-1.3.0-2mdk10.1.i586.rpm  asked for libstdc++.so.6
and
grass-6.0.1-2mdk10.1.i586.rpm  asked for libfftw.so.2

and regarding Michelle's comment that this is not a grass issue,
unfortunately to get grass running you need to know something about make,
rpm (or equivalent),shell scripts, root privilegdes and package
installation, at least it helped me get it running. I hope I didn't mess
something else.
