I have had odd reluctant starts, too, after choosing a mapset and
location. I'm not sure why; usually it starts the next time, and I
wonder whether it's something odd in the .grassrc6 file or with a
leftover temp file that wasn't deleted. But I haven't tried to debug
it. I feel your pain, though.
