Very well commented.

I was going to volunteer to host an Ubuntu Grass binary with install
script on my ftp site, but with your script it should be a lot easier
for users to compile their own cvs code. If people think it would be
worthwhile, I can post a daily tar.gz with sheel script from my fresh
cvs compile.

I have posted a bash script which more-or-less automates the download,
configuration, compilation and installation of GRASS 6.1-cvs on Ubuntu
6.06. If you have been reluctant to try compiling GRASS yourself and
you run the latest version of Ubuntu, give this script a try:
