I just added support in d.labels for v.label's text highlight color &
width settings, so you don't need to muck around with different font
sizes (that would diverge as you got further from reference point of
text anyway).

It will look better with a Freetype font (d.text.freetype), and will
look worse if you make the highlight width bigger than 3 or 4.
