That noise is either from some 3rd-party AppleScript scripting  
addition you have installed, or from a system hack/extension (that LCC  
Scroll Enahncer mentioned, maybe?) that may be a bit old, or poorly  
programmed.  It is probably not affecting GRASS (CLI programs), since  
AppleScript is only briefly used to start GRASS.  But it may  
negatively affect X11 for the GUI...
