thank you for your concern.

I had 2 versions installed: one from Jachym's repo and another one from
FWTools. I removed yesterday everything and recompiled in the proper
order, added the proper lines in /etc/ld.so.conf (and some other detail
which I stole from Dylan's notes upon compilation).

It works now fine. Excuse me for the mail-traffic.

Jachym, does the gdalinfo (and other gdal-tools) work fine for you under
Ubuntu 64-bit? I always get a segfault error.
