by the time grass 7 is released, I'm sure it will be.

believe it or not, that's exactly the direction we've headed
with grass 7 -- aiming for a simpler, more modular backend, and
moving all the interactive stuff into the GUI frontend. The first
step of that is remaking the backend, which is going well, the
second step is getting all the frontend stuff in place, part of
which is the full GUI, which is keeping pace, but some other
things like an enhanced wximgview is still on the wishlist.
Give it time and enjoy GRASS 6.4.x for now, or even GRASS 5.4
if you like, they won't expire.  The more people who study up
on wxPython, the faster it will come :)
