Neither is inherently better than another. The binary I build has built in multiple language support (gettext) and support for LAS tools (for Lidar processing). You would need to build extra packages to get this support. However, if you build it yourself, you can customize it with what you do and don't want.

Because William updates his frameworks at irregular intervals as new versions of the software become available, the frameworks needed to run the binaries are available on my GRASS 7 binary site. There is a readme file on my binary site that says which versions were used for compiling. You can compare those with the versions you have.
