[GRASS-user] grass6.4.4 start up scripts issue

I just installed the OSGeo4W packages inlcuding grass 6.4.4 and qgis etc

when try to start the grass using grass64.bat -wx in a command window
it brings the welcome window where I selected the mapset and location etc.
then click on start grass button, the program flashes starting grass gui
and then a message on my cmd window
GRASS module 'g.proj' not found. Unable to start map display window
and the program closes.

has anyone found a solution for this issue.
