[GRASS-user] Label vector map

Hi Anna/Micha,
Guess the wrong vector was exported, should be the map Allekavels and attribute Kavel_nr.
I repacked the vector file. I tried to reopen it using Micha;s method, I can unzip the pack file (gz) without problems - but cannot add the maplayer to a new system. Is there a new build available with the fix? I checked http://wingrass.fsv.cvut.cz/grass71/ but the last build is 25/8/2015.
I'll check again tomorrow.
Henk

Well, this is embarrassing - I cannot open my own pack!
Not your fault, it is fixed now.
I created a new workspace with a default Cartesian projection but if I try to unpack I get
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Users\\he
nkwitte.GROENHOLLAND\\Documents\\grassdata/test/henkwitte/.t
mp/unknown/8544.0\\PROJ_INFO'
I have tries also with using the current-location-projection option, but same error.
With regard to the labelling, you are telling me you can label KOPER_NAAM and STRAATNAAM but these should not be attributes in the vector file AllleKavels. The field I try to use in the label is kavel_nr. I have repacked the vector file, if there are other attributes in this file than that is strange as well (however, I did join this vector file to a new database with different attributes - can something go wrong there?)
So I tried the exact command you used on Windows 8, GRASS GIS 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 and it works for me. The column names are:
db.describe -c table=KavelsGemeente
ncols: 19
nrows: 136
Column 1: cat:INTEGER:20
Column 2: OBJECTID:INTEGER:20
Column 3: KAVEL_NR:CHARACTER:50
Column 4: KOPER:CHARACTER:50
Column 5: PRIJS:CHARACTER:50
Column 6: VERKOOPTEK:CHARACTER:50
Column 7: DATUM:CHARACTER:50
Column 8: HUISNUMMER:CHARACTER:254
Column 9: KOPER_NAAM:CHARACTER:50
Column 10: STRAATNAAM:CHARACTER:50
Column 11: HYPERLINK:CHARACTER:100
Column 12: BOUWJAAR:CHARACTER:4
Column 13: ERFPACHTCA:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
Column 14: PERCEELPRI:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
Column 15: ERFPACHT_1:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
Column 16: PERCEELP_1:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
Column 17: OPPERVLAKT:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
Column 18: SHAPE_AREA:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
Column 19: SHAPE_LEN:DOUBLE PRECISION:20
So I am not sure what to do about it.
Anna
Thanks
Henkn

I tried your vector pack file, and I have no problems displaying both KOPER_NAAM and STRAATNAAM columns as labels on the map display. (On linux, not Windows)

Sorry, I am new to GRASS and still have to learn a lot of the basics. Still - great product that allows me to create maps that I need fairly easily!
I have now run v.pack to create the vector file.
I am not entirely familiar with the projections, as I imported most data from esri shapefiles and use X- and Y-coordinates in the Dutch RGD system (basically meters easting and northing) I did not worry to much about the projection (the region is small). If I run g.proj -p I get:
(Tue Aug 25 19:41:59 2015)
g.proj -p
XY location (unprojected)
(Tue Aug 25 19:41:59 2015) Command finished (0 sec)
Basically it tells me I am using an unprojected mapset.
Hope this helps!

Dear Anna,
Thanks for your suggestions, I have tried the North Carolina dataset (using the NAME attribute of the counties as label) and this indeed works fine. I have also tried my original file, and there I still have problems.
The vector (polygon) files I wanted to label have been created from two separate source files (imported from esri shape files) that I have merged. During the merge I noted a number of problems with the polygons, although it now displays OK. After this I joined the vector file with a new attribute table. I can use that to color the polygons (create thematic maps) but I cannot label the polygons even if I use the grass-generated "cat"column.
I have tried not specifying a font at all (default) and then did specify a font to see if that would help. Unfortunately not.
I have added the vector file (directory) as a zip file to this email.
Could you please use v.pack to send us the vector, you can't just take the directory with the vector, the attribute data are stored separately and v.pack takes care of that. Also which projection are you working in? Could you send the EPSG? Thank you
Anna
Thanks for any further assistance!
Henk

Any suggestions?
Perhaps if you could replicate the problem on North Carolina sample dataset or provide your vector file, it would help identify the problem. Does it happen with other vectors or attribute columns? Have you tried different font or not specify it at all?
