v.rmdup does not delete dangling lines, though I see v.spag does so perhaps
the two in combination. After a more careful reading of the man pages, none
of these progams does (completely) what I'm wanting; which is:

- extend endpoints of lines across gaps
- remove dangles
- remove redundant nodes
- remove "jaggies"; change a "connect the dots" type jagged line to a
smooth spline-like line.

The source data is vectors which have been created with r.line

Another question: when a program like v.rmdup asks for a threshold value,
what units are being used? meters? feet? degrees? etc.

cheers,
