Hi Simon,

I didn't read the mail carefully :-)

>when I first load the layer it shows in the map display as a single colour block

it's not a NVIZ problem, but a raster problem. Try to import again with r.in.gdal or try with r.in.arc
If not succesfull, try to download SRTM v3 data from http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/

Regards

Marco

  Hi Marco,

Thanks for your very prompt reply. I just tried that but no luck alas. It seems to me like this is being treated as a 2D raster with no elevation data but I guess I don't really know enough about formats and such yet. This is only a personal project, with no real urgency about it so I'll just keep plugging away and hope I figure it out.

  Simon.

    Hi Simon,

did you set the z-exag parameter?
Since lat/long data are in decimal degrees while elevation is in meters, you must set the correct value for the z-exag parameter.
The transformation from decimal degrees to meters is not univocal, because it depends on the geographic zone you're working on, but we can assume a generic (mean)transformation value and set the z-exag as follows:

in the z-exag field type 8.9606e-6 and then enter

    I hope this helps,

    Marco
