I would like to thank Josef Strobl for giving me the opportunity to present (by teleconference) at the UNIGIS meeting in Zagreb yesterday. UNIGIS colleagues are doing amazing work in expanding GIS education globally. I gave an overview of the latest developments done by our colleagues ( i gave examples from Phil's QGIS Academy , Maria's Europa challenge etc)

I have requested them to please consider the following suggestions:

1. Give a copy of the latest version of OSGeo Live DVD http://live.osgeo.org/en/index.html to every student enrolled in any UNIGIS program, so they will get access to all the geospatial software requirements for their education. They can add UNIGIS logo in addition to OSGeoLive logo also for this in the DVDs you give out for thier students.

2. Plan to convert existing course materails/tutorials based on Proprietary to Open Source GIS . The example i gave of what QGIS Academy achieved can give some insights on what is possible and how fast it is scalable. It will also be good for the skills development for the students as they will get exposure to open source based GIS also.

3. Encourage UNIGIS students to participate in the next version of NASA World wind Europa challenge.

Best wishes,

Suchith
