My interpretation is that we want the projects to include the OSGeo
logo on their project site and link back to OSGeo. This is a minimal
requirement that everybody is usually happy to comply with but which
often enough simply is forgotten. Therefore we need it in the checklit
/ template. My most recent example is Marble (OSGeo in the footer).

This might be modified to read something like: "Provide
binaries/source code tarball for download on OSGeo infrastructure" and
then adding: "or recognized independent Open Source provider, for
example Apache, Eclipse, SourceForge, etc.". This makes up part of the
trust that OSGeo can offer to new users dipping their toe in Open
Source and still feeling weird because of all the FUD they had to eat.
It is not that we should enforce migrating anything to OSGeo. I guess
a project locked into Apache or SourceForge is well protected form
vanishing without a trace but there might still be the odd project
that runs their own servers and could disappear. Again - this is just
a reminder that the incubation committee look into this before
recommending graduation.

No other reason than organic diversity (some prefer to call it chaos).
+1 from my side to go ahead as you propose.
