Reviewing the application, the key question I had is answered:
*Why is OSGeo Incubation good for your project?*
*We wish to officially demonstrate the level of quality of the processes
uses to build OSGeo-Live.*
OSGeo Live is a great outreach tool, not only to end users evaluating open
source for the first time, but also to development teams going through the
steps to add their project to the distribution. As such it often provides
the first exposure to our open source contribution cultural expectations.
If incubation can in any way endorse OSGeo Live as an example of the
dedication, professionalism and respect we as a community expect we would
be well served to accept this application.
My only concern is that incubation, and recognition as a project, should
not take away from OSGeo-Live's standing as one of our leading outreach
initiatives as an organization. I always view OSGeo-Live (distribution
direct to GIS professionals) as on par with LocalChapter (horizontal
grassroots regional advocacy), Conference Committee (foss4g and events),
GeoForAll (education advocacy), UN Committee, Public GeoScience and the
OSGeo Board (vertical sector advocacy via partner relationships, and
recognizing organizations sponsoring our activities).
I am writing too much, it is more a question for OSGeo-Live leadership. To
confirm that grouping OSGeo-Live as a normal project does not sell it short.
If there is any concern about my prior history with OSGeo-Live I am happy
to vote +0.
