Hello,
I'm for Gitter: it is a really simple client, not too much feature such
as in Slack or Mattermost (the engine behind Framateam), and is simpler
to join than the two others: only a Github account is necessary (or
not), and no invitation is necessary to join a channel (if it is
public). In Slack (free version)/Mattermost, new users needs to receive
an invitation. If people outside of the current dev team wants to join,
we need to have a simple process.
Also for those who worry, Gitter is now opensource
(https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/).
Note: I have used Gitter for more than a year, Slack for more than three
years, and Mattermost a little.
