Hello Local Chapter Chairs & anyone who might know,

I've been asked whether I (as OSGeo:UK Chair) / we (as OSGeo:UK) can
write a letter of support for a UK University of a research bid?

There are a few details below, and I wondered what other local chapters
did. My inclination is to say yes. The people/group are very good and
know what they are doing, and have done work in open source software
before.

What do you think? Any comments (including 'I don't know'!) are welcome :-)

Best wishes,
Nick.

Hi Nick

<snip>

I have a rather random question for you with your OSGeo hat on .. do OS
Geo offer letters of support for research bids ?   UCL are putting in a
bid for a  5-year Digital Twins Research Network+, to bring together
communities of researchers and industry /government partners involved in
Digital Twins from all across the UK.  The aim of the network will be to
provide policy guidance, set a longer term research plan for what the UK
needs to develop leadership in this area, identify skills gaps and how
to fill them, and look at ethics, data security, human integration,
environmental sustainability and much more, and we’d like to involve
people with all levels of Digital Twins skills – from ‘no idea what this
is’ to ‘I’m an expert’

Of course, open source software would be key to long term success in the
area,  hence the question about the letter of support.  The actual
support could simply be publicising activities around the UK and
international network, or could be hosting/organising training, or
participating in workshops and much more.

Happy to provide more details – and a template letter if helpful – if
this is something that could be supported?

Best regards

Claire
