You're right, but what about stocking the translations into a table of the database or xml file or something like that, with a little simple user interface.
For example a select box for the different languages and two cols. One for the keyword and one for the desired translation.
It's little easier to manage, looks nicer and and the 'beautiful' admin gui would assure the position as one central configuration point.

BTW: I asked at the office, if I could join to PSC membership!---- If you want it, I would'n'could join the PSC! ;-)
