OK,
A lot of this is beyond my ability to comprehend at 1:00am (according to Bob, compilers run faster at this time of day, but my brain keeps dropping bits...)
What I do think is important is how this will play out in areas other than standard image-based maps. For instance, does this make it difficult to implement OGC standards (is SLD dead?) How about KML? Will there be support for delivering the composite point symbols to Google Earth as placemarks?
I guess, to put it simply, does anything in this specification limit our ability to support serving layers that are symbolised via this technology through the alternative data delivery mechanisms?
Also, are there any other systems out there already that do the same thing, which we could copy instead of implementing from scratch? Does SVG (dead or not) cover our needs?
If any of this makes sense to anyone, I'll be happy :)
