[mapguide-internals] FW: [mapguide-users] Mapguide 2.0 Beta1 vs 1.2 performance

In order to find out if the AGG renderer is causing the performance hit for your map, you can switch back to GD by setting the Renderer option in serverconfig.ini to GD and time it like that.

The performance difference can be attributed to the fact that this is a Beta version being compared to a Release version.

Some things to consider:
- 1.2 used the GD renderer, whereas, 2.0 is using the new AGG renderer (looks much better)
- there are several places in the code that have not been optimized yet (algorithms, memory usage, thread usage, etc...)
- Fusion is a brand new feature of the 2.0 release and has not been optimized either
- this is a Beta and doesn't necessarily reflect the final release code. :)

Thanks,
Bruce

Anyone else have a feeling for relative performance of 1.2 vs 2.0 vs
2.0 w/ Fusion? I saw it installed on a laptop yesterday, running full
screen with no tiling and the Sheboygan sample, and it was panning and
zooming in milliseconds (there was barely a flash). Everything was on
the same machine, so there was no network latency.

Note that Fusion, in particular, is probably not optimized for initial
load in this beta. But run-time performance should be at least on par
with the 2.0 default viewer.

Cheers

Paul
