Hello Buddy,

a while ago we have disabled tooltips in our solutions. It is really unnecessary and just like you said - reduces server overload. It would be nice to have option "activate tooltip after 1sec in onmouseover event" or desable/enable tooltip.

Subject: [mapguide-internals] When do we need tooltips in MapGuide?

Hi List,

Currently in MapGuide, the client sends "QueryMapFeatures" request to get the tooltips every time we move the cursor in both Ajax viewer and Fusion Viewer.
In my opinion, most of the requests are unnecessary and useless for the end-user. For example, when the user are doing measure/pan/zoom, the tooltips are redundant for the user.
However, the client still sends "QueryMapFeatures" requests to the Server. If we remove these unnecessary requests, we can reduce server's overload.

Now the question is, when do we need tooltips in MapGuide?
IMO, only when the user wants to select something in the map, the tooltips are helpful. What do you think?

Any comments are appreciated!
-Buddy
