I think the plan would be more to coordinate this change with AIMS 2013 as the OS version this is planned for should be available around that time.

My one single concern here is the milestone.

Do we intend to maintain API/resource compatibility between OS/Commercial
versions of MapGuide? Past OS/Commercial releases have had the same public
API and resource schema support, allowing for seamless migration of data and
application code from a OS installation to an equivalent commercial
installation.

This RFC if approved in its current form would introduce a new schema
version that only the OS version would know about, unless you intend to
backport this support into AIMS 2012
