I could be wrong, that suggested solution seems to be only applicable to
repositories not working copies. 

We could do it like this, but that demands our users to have SVN >= 1.7
installed whereas the current approach will be recognised by all SVN
versions (1.6 and older will just work, 1.7 will detect and prompt user to
upgrade the directories)

I'm all ears for any other space-saving ideas.
