Jackie,

As this will only br required to handle updates from v2.4 onwards I (no SVN
expert) would have thought that the history of pre v2.4 changes can be
dumped (see answers in stakoverflow below)

Would it not also be possible in the deploy build to use a v1.7 SVN client
and do a checkout to a new folder under the deployment tree (which would
have the single root SVN repro in the right place) rather than a copy from
the trunk that needs the per-folder v1.6 SVN structure retained.
