Data Connection - SQL Databases

Hi,
 
I'm trying to connect through to an SQL database.  I've tried the FDO - SQL option but I can't seem to be able to configure the geography.  I've tried the ODBC connection but studio crashes everytime I try and make the layer.  Any clues?
 
I'd read somewhere that the current ODBC was only compatible with MS Access - is this still the case?
 
I'm running the Preview version of Studio (v1.0.0.17804) on the preview version of Enterprise.  OS on the server is Win 2003 - IIS 6.
