[mapguide-users] RE: getting map image in svg format

I wasn't sure if Adobe was deprecating their plugin because

1) of a trend towards direct SVG support within the browser

Or

2) general lack of interest

It seems SVG may be one of those fomats that held a lot of promise that
was never realized.

It'll depend on how many people are pushing it.

SVG would allow for an incredible amount of innovation if it was better
supported, especially when combined with AJAX.

At the recent FME conference, there was a demo of a map that was similar
to a Canadian NTS mapsheet or a US DRG, all in a single SVG file. It
looked great, allowed full-resolution zooms, etc, etc.

Without major corporate support though, SVG will need to be pushed
bottom-up.

I was thinking the same thing Jason... In light of that, does SVG have
much of a future?

Hmm. Me too. It started out OK, but once I zoomed in it got really
slow.

I really like the idea of SVG, but I don't think that the Adobe plugin
is a good long-term solution considering that Adobe has EOL'd it.

Same here. Adobe SVG Viewer in IE was much more responsive.

Don't know how it is for you, but firefox 2.0 pretty much slows down to
a standstill on my computer when attempting to use this map.
