Point symbol in layer pane

I have some point features which  Ive symbolized and added to my map.
The features themselves display properly in both the dwf / ajax viewers.
However, the symbols are not symbolized in the layer pane.  

 

Is this a known bug/issue?  Or something particular to my
install/configuration?
