getting started - help us ! Andy, Jason, Ivan n all

Hi  all
 
 I had been using shp files as data source. I now want to graduate to using
oracle spatial data. 

 1)  What all do i need to install on my system?  Currently I have only
mapguide open source installed. 
 From the regular dope on the discussion group i know i will need oracle
10.2 Client 
 Is this where the spatial data will be stored ?

   a) Mapguide opensource         b) Oracle 10.2 Client       c) mapguide
studio   Is that all to get started? 

   I will also need a FDO . King provider is what i will have to download.
Right? 
   Though i don't know how and where to use FDO, 
   I will comeback with my queries once i am ready all the primary setup

  
 2)   How can i convert the shp files to spatial data.  
       
  
  We have started working with GIS softwares  recently and are still novice, 
  so please forgive any stupid questions asked .

  Please help us get started
