Thank you. Good point about the browsing directories options.
There is one more thing I need. An example of starting the server in the
background or INIT script so you don't get text all over the login on server
boot. That of course being you start your server as a service vs. manually
on reboots.

Great job Chris; I'm sure that this will be very helpful for others.
As we get more established I'd love to be able to set up packages for
various distributions, so you could just "emerge fdo_3_3_0; emerge mapguide
1.2" :)
One point; to prevent directory browsing in Apache, you can set Options
-Indexes. There's another way, but I like this better because you can
override it in specific directories if needed.

After playing with this technology on Linux for a few days, I finally got
things working on an Intel based P4 2.0 with 512MB of memory. I offer this
manual as a supplement or a proven path to get MGOS running on Linux. Feel
free to post this on the OSGEO site as a backup source if you feel inclined.
Needed files:
http://mapguide.osgeo.org/downloads.html#MapGuideOpenSource110
mapguide-1.1.0.tar.gz
mapguideaptinstaller-1.1.0.tar.gz
Feature Data Objects 3.2.0
Download the needed http://fdo.osgeo.org/downloads.html. I grabbed all of
them except for the ArcSDE for the examples.
Regards,
Chris
