[mapguide-users] ArcSDE to SDF or SDF3

I am still stuck in the middle ages with mg6.5 because we have sde9.1 on
oracle. I have all the data in oracle sdo format and displayed in mg6x. It
has good performance and also has all the amenities of the original mg
one of these days maybe they will make that move to the new mg. possibly
even if they leave behind crisis command.
I don't know what datatype your sde is in but, if it happened to be sdo you
could use the oracle.king provider and off ya go.

This is a good point... and one Id overlooked in my response. I did
experiment a bit with the sdeFDO provider and wasnt exactly thrilled with
the performance. If your data sets arent too large, then the FDO provider
may be OK. It seems that MGOS performs best with SDF data sources. If you
find performance with SDE is not acceptable, you may prefer the conversion
route. Personally, I think FME is cool.. ;) I belive they recently joined
the open source community in some respect - so it will be interesting to see
how their involvement affects this community. In any case, you certainly
have options.

Trying to understand why you are not using the sdeFDO
Ifyou just want to use fme because of how cool it is that is ok too. In my
latest version you just have to drill down a bit further to get to the
attributes then you want to match them up to a seperate table on the other
side. choose your favorite weapon. if you go to ms access the odbc is
probably going to be easiest be sure to export the same key field into both.

I am new to Mapguide Opensource and I'm trying to convert ArcSDE 9.1 data to
SDF for use in Mapguide Opensource. I am using the FME workbench for the
translation. I am able to translate spatial data to SDF but have been
unable to translate any of the attribute data from ArcSDE 9.1. I am not
able to use a direct connect to SDE as an end user since I don't have admin
rights to the server. Does anyone know of a way to perform this translation
that I am attemting. Any suggestions are wlecome. Thanks.
