[Mapguide_users] Google / Yahoo / Windows Live as Base Map

Hi Brad,
I have not personally worked with the Virtual Earth / Live API. I'm sure
there are ways to accomplish much of what one can do with Google Maps using
custom tile overlays derived from MapGuide Open Source WMS calls. I don't
know about streaming actual vector data, however. It looks like Brian Flood
(of Arc2Earth fame) is pretty active in their developer forums and I know
that he is working on a similar tool to export ArcGIS data to MS Virtual
Earth. One thing about Google, they got a huge head start on this and
developers quickly embraced this and created what must be 10's of thousands
of mashups by now. MS VE's 3D models kick butt, though, so now Google has
some catching up to do in the rendering department.

Andy,
On this subject.. have you done anything with Microsoft live(formerly and
still linked to mappoint.com)?
I really like the interface and the results are phenomenal. Wheel zoom/pan,
after a category selection the results are queried by the map location/size,
the cookie to remember your last lookup, there are a few other bells too.
Windows live is my default map search and second home page to google.com
only.

With Google, it is a violation of their usage agreement to use the imagery
tiles in a manner that does not utilize the Google Maps or Google Earth
applications. I assume that Microsoft is similar. You may be able to use
Google Earth Enterprise for this. See
http://earth.google.com/earth_enterprise.html.
You can do things the other way around, however. Use MapGuide Open Source
to stream your GIS data into the Google or Microsoft client. There are
several samples of this functionality including a couple at my web site at
http://www.spatialgis.com/demo.html.

Does anyone know if it is possible to the incorporate Windows Live
Pictometry images, or google's images or something like it as a web service
into a mapguide project for the base map? I am not sure if you can pay a fee
and get the ability to do something like this.
Thanks,
Brian Berdel

I am also having trouble getting the code from Subversion. But may be that's
expected and I missed the announcement...

And I noticed that the main MapGuide Open Source page is not linking
correctly. Mapguide.osgeo.org goes to the main www.osgeo.org page.
This means that there is currently no way to get to the underlying project
pages.
