It looks like there are inconsistent issues with raster images in base
layers. I will try to test later today on my client's machine where we
had the first problem to see if the issue still exists with 1.2. I just
tried on another 1.2 machine with one single larger (250 MB) SID and it
seemed to work okay creating the tile images. One thing to watch out
for: if you have your map image request set to JPG in your
ajaxmappane.templ for performance reasons, than it will be opaque on top
of your base layers. You will have to switch it back to PNG in order
for the overlay transparency to work and to see your base layers.

Ok, Thanks. It sounds like that thread and you are saying that base
layers do not work with raster images?
but I would think it does work if Kori spent the time to create the
FMTilingEngine...
Can you let me know where I can find Jason's tile indexing?
Thanks for the help, I have spent way too much time on this...

I'm not sure that this problem was ever fixed. I had the same issue
with using ECW images as part of a base layer and eventually gave up.
With other GDAL improvements (including Jason's tile indexing), I was
able to get reasonable performance out of standard raster layers, so I
have not revisited this issue recently.

As a follow up, it seems as though it is not creating the tiles
correctly in Mapguide...When I look in the cache most of the files are
2kb and blank images.

I am having some serious issues using MrSID files as Base Layers...The
images display fine as regular layers but the client ALWAYS locks up
when I have them as base layers and I definitely want to use this
feature for performance reasons. Anyone have anything I can try?
This is the case whether I pre-populate the cache or not.
