have you checked the bug database? http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/

which version of mapguide & OS are you using.

Is it repeatable? if so it would really be good to file a bug if there
isn't one already in trac.

If the server process has crashed, there isn't much you can do. Did
you xml validate, you can always try validating with the xsd
