You can use a link in the form
http://localhost/mapguide/fusion/templates/mapguide/aqua/index.html?extent=-88.32,44.04,-88.31,44.05

It's basically the same way as you say they do it in ESRI.

Dear Listers!

For strating MapGuide 6.5 with a special view on an object in the map, may be a building, you can use a hyperlink like http://my-server/Mapguide6.5/My-website/my-map.mwf?Lat=5602311&Lon=4560544&Scale=1000&Units=M&Ext=mwf. So, for example you can create a table may be with Excel , describing some objects and by using the link the browser opens the map showing the object, you selected in that table.
Or if you are using an ESRI - viewer you have to put in for example http://My-Server/My-Map/viewer.htm?Box=4567353:5615176:4569770:5616473&Layers=00110
Is it possible to create a similar link to start the AJAX - viewer with a spcial defined map view in MapGuide OpenSource? Using Autodesk MapGuide Studio I can define a special initial view by putting in the Lat and Lon of the wanted center and the wanted scale into the WebLayout. But this is not the way to to find a solution for my question.
