Correction on fixed example. It is this:

RuntimeMapLayer layer = mappingSvc.CreateMapLayer(map, srcLayer); 

and not this:

RuntimeMapLayer layer = mappingSvc.CreateRuntimeMapLayer(map, srcLayer);
