Just a note about the GDAL provider.

If gdalinfo.exe can't query the extents due to bad coordinate system, then
neither can the provider. 

This results in empty/bogus extents for a single-file raster feature source,
or completely screwed up extents for a composite raster feature source,
which is the normal reason why you probably see nothing when previewing such
a layer off of it because the preview extents are probably way off from what
the "true" extents of the raster is, and is why before MGOS 2.4 you had to
manually fix up such bad extents in order to be able to preview them because
you will get no help from Maestro/MapGuide/FDO here.
