We needed a check to make sure we are working with a vector layer and not a DWF layer, since the current selection scheme (spatial FDO query) only works for vector (FDO) layers. The check was already there, but it needed to be moved to contain the code that was causing the exception.

Also made a one line fix for point symbol selection -- the wrong type of square was drawing in the AJAX viewer to indicate selection of points.
