Absolutely.
 
The developers guide contains some examples on how to interact with
layers in Chapter 4:

You can see what a LayerDefinition looks like by:
 
- go to mapagent/index.html
- select Resource service API in the upper-left
- select EnumerateResources in the lower-left
- in the right pane, enter LayerDefinition as the Type and click on
Submit
- clipboard the resource ID for one of the layerdefinitions (e.g.
Library://Samples/Sheboygan/Layers/Buildings.LayerDefinition)
- click on GetResourceContent in the lower-left
- paste the resource ID into the appropriate area in the right
- click on submit
