Yesterday, a couple of us noticed some coding errors in the buffering
algorithm. Ben Trumbore is currently looking into this and hopefully
we'll have a submission for the problem we saw soon. It is still good to
enter a defect in Project Tracker in case the errors we saw are
different from the errors that you are seeing.

The code has to be fixed - no other choice.  You should enter an
artifact against this (you'll need to log in to OSGEO).
