[mapguide-users] ArcSDE FDO provider

Thanks Haris,
I am still in the planning stage. Not wanting to rush into any more
problems I can't get out of easily. I had pretty much hung my hat on oracle
sdo when I discovered that the esri implementation doesn't really support
all metadata categories. So now the sde-fdo seems to be a cleaner easier
solution. And as of yet I haven't found anyone who can convince me that esri
will fix the inadequacies. (9.2 maybe not.) So even though we are talking
about oracle sdo 10.2.0.1 spatial data, I really have an esri version of
that. It does not contain the wkt (SRID) value, the min, max bounding values
or the tolerance. These values cannot just be inserted because then sde
loses object control of the tables.
Probably more ranting than you want to hear. If you have further interest
let me know I can fill your ear.
Brad
When these values are present in dbtune file the entities are created as sdo
objects that have correct metadata. But if you do arcgis doesn't respond as
expected.

One option for displaying SDO_GEOMETRY from Oracle 10.2 ( and others) is to
use King.Oracle provider.
It is not yet under fdooracle subproject but binaries you can get here
www.sl-king.com/fdooracle.

As there is no discussion or mailing list for the arcsde fdo provider, and
the oracle fdo only has the commits list available. I would like to ask a
question here.
Q I am running Oracle 10.2.0.1 database. Using oracle sdo_geometry as my sde
(10g) datatype. It would seem at first glance that I have several options
for display in mapguide server. However I notice that the arcsde fdo
specifically states 9.2.0.6 Of my two oracle installations neither has that
specific version (9.2.0.5 and 10.2.0.1). Will this restriction be rectified?
Oracle version jumping is not a walk in the park, and I wouldn't consider it
in the hopes that it might work and there might be a new version next month
that would support only one more version jump. ygtp
Not that I want to reconsider but can someone enlighten me on the many
options. What the pros and cons of each are and what an industry trend may
be in the near future?
GML
OGR
SVG
SDO
PostGIS
BTW there is an sde 9.1 for 10g
