[MapProxy] How set correctly the paletted option

Hi,
reading the docs:

I read in it:

By default, MapProxy will still generate PNG-24 for transparent images. To
enable PNG-8 for these images, you have to add the following to your
proxy.yaml:

image:
  paletted: true

But in another part of doc
https://mapproxy.org/docs/1.10.0/configuration.html#image-options

I read instead that to set a paletted image I should use:

mode
       P

modeOne of RGB for 24bit images, RGBA 32bit images with alpha, P for
paletted images or I for integer images.
Are bith valid ?
