[MapProxy] riak object cleanup on data refresh

I'm considering using a riak cluster to store vector based images - e.g.
road / parcel data service via WMS and cached in riak. These source
datasets feeding the WMS are updated with some regularity which in tern
requires a refresh in the cache. This is done currently using a disk cache
and simply deleting the old cache and allowing it to be seeded on-demand.
According to the docs the use of secondary indexes with riak caches
increase cleanups, does mapproxy still need to issues delete object request
for each tile that intersects with the coverage and defined zoom levels or
is it able to utilize the secondary index when performing cleanup - (issue
deletes request for only existing tiles in the cache)?
