[MapProxy] How do I get these tile sets overlayed with transparency?

Hello!
I'm currently doing my first experiments with Mapproxy. Looks really
neat. I have some questions though.
My first question is: are there any community created resources of map
sources shared for others?
Then, my main question: I am using a map viewer (osm.el in Emacs) that
only supports tiles coming from a tile service, how do you call it -
tms? the thing with the %z/%x/%y style urls. This is why I want to
use Mapproxy as...well, proxy :-) to be able to view more kinds of maps.
I now want to get the Topo Plus map provided by German department of
xyz, described here:
https://gdz.bkg.bund.de/index.php/default/topplusopen-webkarten-topplusopen-webkarten.html
working.
AFAIU, it comes as a bunch of layers the client needs to overlay. I am
trying and struggling like this:

but I only ever see one single completely opaque layer in the demo
service - either one of the both configured, depending on the order.
Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to grab tiles using a
different map service to be able to make use of transparency?
TIA,
Michael.
